Description from Amazon:

An adoptee raised in a foreign land, sixteen-year-old Lianne was content with her life as handmaiden to the queen, until a spell cast on her at birth activated. Now she’s filled with uncontrollable rage and access to magic she thought had been bled from her people years ago. Even her years of secret training in elite hand-to-hand combat and meditation can’t calm the fires raging inside her.

Her heart is torn between two boys, the one she’s always loved and the one who always ignored her. But when the kingdom threatens to tear itself apart due to rumors surrounding the queen’s alleged affair, who will Lianne protect and who will she destroy?

My Review:

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved “Anathema”, I really did, but “Sleepers”? It is quite possibly one of my favorite’s books so far in 2011. Megg Jensen has done it again. She’s crafted a world that will pull you in from start to finish.

“Sleepers” is a story about Lianne, one of three kids given to the enemy as a peace-offering. She works in the castle, taking care of the Queen and her children. She’s never fully accepted by the Fithians as she is of Dalagan blood, but she feels loyal to the Fithians. Until her sixteenth birthday that is. After her awakening, everything changes. Lianne must struggle to seek out the truth between the lies.

Megg Jensen has crafted characters with flaws, characters that are believable and strong. Lianne is a fighter both physically and with her magic. She’s naïve at times, following her heart before thinking it through, but she never gives up in what she believes. She keeps fighting. Add those strong characters in with the wonderfully crafted world Megg’s created and you have a fantastic read.

I wasn’t sure I could like “Sleepers” more than “Anathema”, as that was an all around great read, but “Sleepers” is beyond amazing. As it is the first book in a trilogy, I’m eager to see where the story goes next.

My Review:

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I contacted Megg Jensen a few weeks back about a review copy of “Anathema”. I’ve been reading wonderful things about the book online and I was eager to see just how good it is. When I finished this book, my mouth fell open in shock. “Anathema” is quite possibly one of the best young adult novels I’ve read this year. Megg Jensen has truly crafted a phenomenal story with interesting characters. It’s the perfect beginning for what is sure to be an amazing trilogy!

“Anathema” is the story of Reychel, a slave girl on the verge of her fifteenth birthday, an occasion she’s been dreading. Upon her birthday she will be branded with her master’s symbol, a box, on the nape of her neck below her bald scalp in which she will be claimed by her master. She’s scared of the pain that will come with the branding and she wishes her friend, Ivy, who has gone missing, was there to help her through it.

Upon one of her meetings with her master, Reychel tells him a story one in which she states she will not be branded. Her master becomes angry with her, even though Reychel swears the story was false, and sends her to the dungeon where she meets a woman that will help her escape. Avoiding spoilers: Reychel will discover secrets that will change the world as she knows it; she’ll realize that those she’s held close to her heart have been lying to her for years.

What’s nice about Reychel is that she holds a great power, one that she doesn’t quite understand. She’s a strong, determined character, and I like that about her. I just purchased the second book on Friday, I can’t wait to see where the story is headed! Megg Jensen is an author to watch!
